Potter Marsh August

Potter Marsh August

Potter Marsh sits on the southern end of Anchorage, right alongside Turnagain Arm, separated by the Alaska Rail system and Highway 1. It’s an IBA, or Important Bird Area, used by many a migratory species on their way to and from Arctic breeding grounds. Itself is a breeding ground for many other species.
Moose, otters, and bears find sustenance in the marsh, too. I love that places like Potter Marsh are so close, where I can find local and migratory wildlife to observe, sketch and learn about.
Like any marsh, the fall colors are stunning! At the backside of the marsh sit slopes that eventually lead to the formidable summit of McHugh Mountain.
