This is the first painting in the Patterns series. One afternoon in Hatcher Pass, an area about an hour northeast of Anchorage, I parked in a lot with expansive views of summits all around. The thing that I noticed on this gray day was the patterns that snow and rock made, so I set about playing with these patterns.
A practice piece in my journal captivated my attention, leading to working on this finished piece immediately after.
The experience was so engaging! I was hooked, and the idea for a new collection was born.
Original watercolor on 100% cotton acid-free 140# paper. 8x11”, unframed.
