A look at the peaks of the Chugach National Forest on the Kenai Peninsula. These peaks plunge straight into the water of Turnagain Arm.

The colors and textures of Alaska’s mountains in summer provide an entirely new challenge. I am accustomed to that edge where the greens of hardwoods and pines meet granite along the slopes of New England. It’s different here, allowing my brain to play with the brush strokes in new ways, working out how I want to express what I see.

I believe the ridge in this painting is part of the infamous Resurrection Pass, a multi day trek atop some of the higher peaks across the water. It’s on our list.
