Bio

I have had the absolute honor of freelancing in Natural Science Illustration since 1992, and sharing my passion for observing, learning, and journaling since 1998.

It’s been a long, meandering path filled with tons of joy and a fair number of challenges.

One constant throughout my career is my sketchbook. It comes with me everywhere I go to capture quick flashes of the natural world.

Field Sketching is deeply rooted in my work. It informs every aspect of my writing, teaching and making art. In the process, I learn about the flora, fauna, and their behaviors – as well as the broader landscape – wherever I am.

From my artist statement…
“My identity as an artist is deeply woven into my love for natural history, led by a sense of curiosity, stewardship and joy. I love being outdoors and feel honored when a moment is shared with another creature.

No matter what direction my art moves, it will always be entwined with nature, whether through form, color, subject, or medium. My intent is to bring colors, shapes and movement together in an abstract representational way that gives life to my paintings.”
