Eastern Screech Owls are year-round residents of New England. They are quiet, elusive and superior camouflage artists. The first sighting I ever had was also the first time I had the privilege of sketching one, which was at the NH Audubon site located just outside Concord. That same night, upon arriving home from a day-long outing, I heard the distinct “whinny” of one right across the street from my house! Definitely inspiration for creating a painting. This is one of two paintings created later that week.
