25,000 miles. That’s how far this bird flies every year. From the Arctic to the Antarctic. Pole to pole, making it one of the few species of any animal that enjoy nearly endless daylight throughout their decades-long life.

The Arctic Tern, Sterna paradisaea, has captured my heart for so many reasons. Its flight abilities alone make me smile every time I watch them, but there is so much more to behold and respect.
