Making Watercolor Pigment Mixing Cards

There’s no better way to know your watercolor pigments than to play with them. A purposeful way to play with them is to create Pigment Mixing Cards. Spend 90 minutes with me and learn how to create your own. When mixing two pigments it’s not always a 50/50 ratio of two pigments or pigment/water ratio. What hue can you achieve? What value can you achieve? It’s fun, it’s purposeful and it’s incredibly useful!

Supplies can be simple: whatever watercolors and brushes you already have. I recommend an Arches watercolor block size 8x8” (20x20cm). Super convenient. Otherwise, a good watercolor pad or sheets in a similar size. Two water containers and paper towels or cotton rags round off the list. Please feel free to contact me with questions. A specific list of my tools can be shared upon request.
