The Chugach Mountains’ front range can be seen from almost anywhere in the city of Anchorage, but there are no easy spots to work from that provide a wide, unobstructed view of them. One must adapt.

I parked on the south side of the Ted Stevens International Airport, behind a chain link fence which did a good job of breaking up a clear view of the mountains. Not to be deterred, I adapted to the situation and got it done!

O’Malley is one of the first peaks in the Anchorage Bowl that my husband summited, and one of the highest. This was early on, when I was still terrified of a bear encounter. I later learned that opting out was probably for the best… slippery, shale-like rock slides near the summit. Vertigo doesn’t like that.

Original watercolor on Etchr 100% cotton acid-free 140# cold press paper. 11x8”, unframed.
