This drawing and three others in the Archive Event are among 150 pieces created for my first guidebook. It took almost a full year of hiking on “the cape” with the author as she led me to all the species of plant and animal life she wanted to be illustrated. I took photos of everything and would bring back small samples of plant material to illustrate at home. Projects like these are how I learned much about the natural history of New England, and how different it is in southern New England compared to where I lived at the time in northern New England!. Only four framed pieces from the book remain in my inventory…two tree species and two shrub species!
