Sketching and Hiking Weekend at AMC's Highland Center CANCELLED

  • Appalachian Mountain Club Highland Center Route 302 Bretton Woods, NH 03575 USA (map)

Drawing from nature is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to discover the plants and animals around you.  There is crossover value for everyone: practice drawing from life; hone observation skills; deepen knowledge of the natural world.

With simple sketching techniques we can develop our ability to really see the details of what is going on around us.  Join artist, Sandy McDermott, on a 3-day Introduction to Field Sketching trip.  Participants will be introduced to several techniques for recording our observations in the natural world, the most important being observation.   The Highland Center offers a perfect location to learn the basics of field sketching with forest, field ponds and trails to explore.  No drawing experience is necessary.  The main objective is not to produce finished works necessarily, but rather, to create quick and colorful thumbnails and small studies that can then be used as reference for later paintings (for the artist), further natural history learning (for the naturalist) or simply for personal journaling.

Check back for registration information.
